Film Language

Mise en Scene - Term to describe all the elements in the visual movie

Style of acting --> Props --> Setting (scenery) --> Lighting --> Style of acting etc
This is the combination of all the visual elements within the frame (Frame: The physical boundary containing what the audience sees)

Camera Movement (eg. tilting up or going along with a character whilst they run) --> Speed (fast - car races .. slow - romance movie) Exposure (Lighting in movie) --> Focus (Clarity of items on image.. can use selective focus - blurry in the background & clear object) --> perspective (Vanishing points & seeing the scenery threw a characters eyes) --> Camera Position (looking up at adults to make them seem more powerful and down on children to make them appear small and insignificant.)


Sound - Music --> Sound Effects --> Dialogue

Editing - Graphic Relationships: Jump cut --> Rhythem: the beat of the film (Jumping cuts, to show an emotional response that the character experiences) --> Passing of time (rate at which the film operates eg. 20 years in 1 hour
