Genre Identification - Action Films, Adventure Films and Comedy Films


Genre
List some of the common elements used in these genres; consider Mise-en-scene, Cinematography, Sound (Effects and Music) and Narrative Conventions (typical scenarios or characters)
Action Films
Action films usually include:

·       High energy scenes
·       Big-budget physical stunts
·       Chases (eg. Car chases)
·       Intense Rescues (Where a character is just about to loose their life but is saved- keeping the audience on the edge of their seat)
·       Battles/Fights
·       Escapes
·       Destructive Crises (Natural disasters, explosions (bombs), fire)
·       Spectacular Rhythms and pacing
·       Often adventurous
·       Two sided ‘good-guys’ (one side a heroine other a villain)
·       Heroes battling villains
·       Spies, martial arts


Adventure Films

·       Usual exciting stories
·       Lots of twists
·       New experiences involved or exotic locales
·       Very similar and often paired with action films
·       Can include traditional swashbucklers
·       Includes searches or expeditions for things such as lost continents
·       Usually through the jungle and desert
·       Sometimes include treasure hunts and searches for the unknown




Comedy Films


·       Light hearted plots
·       Consistently and deliberately designed to provoke laughter
·       Normally include one-liners, jokes and witty comments
·       Usually exaggerating the situation, language, actions, relationships and characters
·       Sometimes uses slapstick comedy, screwball comedy (wacky & with not normal and excaudate characters, overly comic situations which would normally never happen in real life), spoofs and parodies
